After a curse was placed on his eye by his adoptive father, Allen was able to see the souls sealed into the bodies of Akuma -- but recently he's come to learn that he is also capable of viewing souls of other non-humans as well. While the reaction of his eye to Akuma is triggered automatically, Allen must expend conscious effort to see the soul of any other being and he has yet to perfect this technique.
